Conservation Halton continually monitors the condition of its watershed to prevent flooding and erosion problems and to maintain healthy streams during dry periods. The environment agency has a water control and flood warning program to reduce the risks of drought and flooding. This includes issuing flood forecasting and warning alerts and low water advisories.
Flood Status Normal: Conditions are within normal limits.
Flood Status High Water Safety Bulletin: A Flood Status High Water Safety Bulletin can be a general notice of conditions that pose a risk to personal safety or it may report general watershed conditions. Under normal status conditions it may be issued to advise municipalities and residents about existing conditions along watercourses. It also advises whether a change in normal conditions is anticipated by Conservation Halton.
Flood Status Advisory: A Flood Status Advisory serves to notify municipalities and public that the potential for flooding exists. Under advisory status conditions, affected municipalities and residents are advised about the potential for an increase in water levels and flows. Affected residents should be aware of the potential for flooding and subsequent risk to public safety and property damages. Municipalities should be prepared to respond to flooding problems.
Flood Status Warning: A Flood Warning is a notice declaring that flooding has occured or is imminent and requires action by municipalities, emergency services and residents. Under warning status conditions, affected municipalities and residents are advised that flooding has occured or is imminent. Affected residents should be aware that there is a high probability of property damages and risk to public safety. Action is required from municipalities.
